Shame

This movie is about a man who is obsessed with sex. There are a couple of pretty intense sex scenes, including gay men licking d***s in a seedy sex club as well as lesbians going down on each other. And we also get a close look or two of Michael Fassbenders reproductive organ, although not in an erected state!

Unfortunately for Brandon (Fassbender – ‘Inglorious Basterds’, ‘Prometheus’), he can only be satisfied when he has sex with prostitutes, in sex clubs, in front of webcams, by having sex in public areas and other more or less unusual places or situations. He is a very attractive guy, who is able to score every girl that he meets in the subway, in the disco or at work, but these ordinary girls are not able to satisfy his needs.

His sister Sissy (Carey Mulligan – ‘Drive’, ‘An Education’) is a struggling singer, who, much to Brandon’s annoyance, is coming to stay in his apartment. Brother and sister has a very strained relationship, we are never really told why, but of cause we can guess… As you may have guessed, this is not exactly a feel good movie, and neither Brandon nor Sissy are happy people.

The performance of both Fassbender and Mulligan are very fine, no doubt about that. And while I do like sex a much as the next guy, I do think that it is a little bit too much in you face in this movie. Hitchcock made sexier movies than this, without showing as much as a naked, eh, shoulder. Maybe Steve McQueen (not THAT Steve McQueen), but the director of this movie should have studied the old master a little bit more intensely, before he made this flick 😉

Don’t get me wrong, I did like this movie, but I could have liked it more. Out of sex, I mean six, I’m going to award this flick:
